Don't be bamboozled; everyone needs some motivation, and to pretend otherwise is to make subtle a vital process to one's success. Success in any field does not have a roadmap, but there are fundamentals to achieving and being successful at anything in life. One of such fundamentals is knowing what motivates you –what keeps you going.
Is this a campaign for motivational speakers? It is not!
However, this is a call against a rising social idea that seeks to derail the place of motivation in becoming an achiever. If there was ever a time when motivation needed to be more alive, it is now, and stating why is the reason for this post.
What is Motivation?
Oxford dictionary defines ‘Motivation’ as the feeling of wanting to do something, especially something that involves hard work and effort.
While there are a thousand and one definitions, descriptions, and explanations of the word 'Motivation,' I like to simplify it into two terms - 'Driving force'. As humans, we are designed to be driven towards something and to be also driven by something. It is our nature, and we have adapted to this nature by nurture. This means our driving force –what motivates us as humans- varies because we are not all brought up the same way and not headed to the same destination.
Why do you need motivation?
“Motivation is the electrical power that activates the engine of success.” I saw this quote a few years back, and it does not just captivate the meaning of 'Motivation'. It also speaks to why you and I need motivation. The word 'activates' tells the story. Without motivation, it would be very challenging to change or accomplish much of anything because, just like that quote states, motivation activates. Here are ten simple ways motivation activates our life – why motivation matters.
Motivation makes you healthier: Better health requires exercise and good nutrition. Although we are creatures of habit, we may also alter our behavior. We require inspiration. Changing your behaviors may seem challenging if nothing pushes you to adopt healthy ones. New patterns take time and work to develop. Therefore we need a source of energy. The desire to live a healthier lifestyle may also be fueled by the desire to watch your children grow up or to feel better physically. You can develop healthy behaviors with the help of these drivers and gain the advantages.
Motivation enhances your connections: Relationships can be complicated at times. We all have to resolve disagreements, set boundaries, and work through misunderstandings. Also, relationships take a lot of time and effort. Lack of motivation causes issues to go unresolved, distance to develop, and a sense of neglect among all parties. The quality of a relationship is improved if you're driven to preserve or strengthen it.
Motivation aids in developing new skills: The ability to learn a new skill rests on two factors: habit and motivation. You don't always need to "feel" inspired when doing something for a while; you might keep doing it out of habit. Yet you need inspiration while you're still developing those behaviors. It would help if you had the motivation to keep at a new skill or pastime when you're still awful at something. Continue reflecting on why you initially started doing this, hoping it will eventually become a habit.
Motivation makes learning easier: You'll need motivation, whether your goal is to become an authority on a subject or to learn enough to speak intelligently about it. You'll need to read more than one article or book because most topics are more intricate than they seem at first glance. Motivation enables you to sort through what may appear to be an infinite number of materials, assimilate and evaluate the knowledge, and continue learning.
Having motivation makes you more productive: Take a moment to consider your motivations if you want to be more effective. Have you got any? It's far simpler to become distracted or put off completing anything if you're acting automatically and not considering your motivation. You're more likely to be more productive if you're driven by something, even if it's as simple as wanting to finish your work and have supper at 6 o'clock.
Motivation is a career-enhancing factor: Do you have big career goals? Many people consider their goals for the next five or ten years and their plans for that period. A typical dream is to advance in one's work. Usually, a lot of work is required. Motivations may include the need for a larger salary or duties more aligned with your interests. Many people aspire to transition into a position that offers them greater flexibility. You must maintain motivation to achieve your goals, no matter what.
Motivating others is number seven: It's said that happiness spreads quickly, and so does motivation. You're more likely to feel inspired if you surround yourself with enthusiastic people. That doesn't imply you should cut off your life from "unmotivated" people. It is unfair to expect someone to be upbeat and productive at all times because different situations that people go through can impair their motivation. Having said that, if you need extra inspiration and motivation, consider the people you know who have committed to adopting new, healthy habits and making positive changes in their lives. They can be helpful contacts to discuss achieving your objectives.
Motivation helps you endure adversity: Maintaining motivation is relatively easy when things are going well. Yet when things get tough, it's simpler to lose track of the goal. A great strategy to keep afloat is to consider what motivates you deliberately. You can acknowledge your emotions while also keeping in mind that you can get over this. Your motives push you to continue attempting.
To be effective as a leader, one must be motivated: Although leaders have several duties, one of the most crucial ones is inspiring others. A team's productivity will deteriorate if they aren't motivated. The leader must mobilize everyone through good and bad times, offer support, and keep them motivated. Leaders should study the most effective methods for inspiring a group, and ineffective tactics should be avoided.
Motivation drives social justice and transformation: This planet has many problems. Addressing issues like poverty and equality can feel overwhelming, yet campaigners have been doing it for decades. Even in the face of opposition, justice seems to prevail. How do people handle having such unattainable dreams? They want the next generation to have a brighter future. It would be logical to give up without this drive. Motivating individuals to action has had a significant positive impact on the planet.
Is motivation enough?
Earlier in this piece, I stated how motivation is one of the fundamentals of success in any field, which clearly suggests that there is more to success than being motivated. Therefore, a direct answer to the question, 'is motivation enough?’ will be No. It can never be enough, but success is guaranteed when motivation is coupled with discipline, skills, and others of similar ilk.
